A Chatham-Kent man is facing animal cruelty charges after a pup suffered "trauma" and multiple fractures.
The Lambton-Kent SPCA sent a media release Tuesday afternoon, stating that an unnamed Chatham-Kent man was charged August 31 with four counts of animal cruelty.
Officials with the OSPCA were called regarding the welfare of a dog. As stated in the release, the one-year-old, medium-sized dog was not able to put weight on one of its hind legs. On May 2, the dog was removed from the owner's care because of "non-compliance of OSPCA Act orders."
A veterinarian examination found that the dog suffered "trauma" to the pelvis and leg regions. The dog had multiple fractures that required surgery. Officials with the Lambton-Kent SPCA said they could not release the dog's current condition at this time.
The Chatham-Kent man is charged with permitting distress to an animal, failing to provide adequate and appropriate medical attention, failing to comply with an OSPCA Act Order and interfering with an agent or inspector of the society.
The accused is set to appear in provincial court September 18.
