Doctor accused of assault and threats released from custody

A local doctor accused of assault and uttering death threats has been released on $20,000 bail split between two sureties.

A publication ban is in place so the name of the man can't be released at this time. The doctor appeared in court Wednesday for his show cause hearing to be released on bail. He was charged by the Chatham-Kent Police Service on June 13. The offences allegedly took place over a period of time from October 1, 2001 to November 30, 2001, and February 18, 2018 to June 10, 2018.

Two close friends of the man stepped up as sureties and are now on the hook for $10,000 each if the doctor breaks his conditions.

He is currently facing a total of 20 charges; ten counts of verbally uttering death threats to four people, seven counts of assault against two people, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon (a pillow), and assault with a weapon (a knife).

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

He will be back in court Wednesday, September 26 to continue review of his disclosure.
