Third Street bridge to reopen in November

Chatham-Kent has secured a contractor for the Third Street bridge and municipal officials expect it to be open to motorists in early November.

The municipality emailed a release to the media on Thursday confirming the hiring of a company to do the work with an anticipated completion date of November 2, 2018.

The release said all four lanes of the bridge will be reopened, in a load posted state, once the repairs are complete. The weight restriction will remain in effect until rehabilitation work takes place in 2020.

The email added pedestrians will still be allowed on the bridge until repairs start, at which point it will be closed to all modes of transportation until completion.
