Region may get drenched Sunday and Monday

Forecasters continue to watch a potential rainmaker for Sunday and Monday.

Environment Canada has updated a special weather statement for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford and Norfolk Counties. The blame is being placed on the remnants of tropical depression Gordon. Rain is expected to begin over the north shore of Lake Erie Sunday afternoon and continue into Monday.

The weather agency says the latest forecast guidance, on Saturday afternoon, has moved the track of this system further south, below the Lake Erie shoreline and as a result lesser rainfall amounts are expected. Total rainfall amounts in the range of 20 to 40 millimetres are possible by the time the rain tapers to scattered showers Monday afternoon.

There remains considerable uncertainty in the timing and track of this weather system, and as a result, rainfall warnings may be issued for all or part of the statement area.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has also issued a flood watch for the Chatham-Kent area. The watch is expected to remain in effect until Tuesday.
