Lock it before your pocket - C-K police respond to accidental 911 calls

Your pocket can call 911, but it’s probably not on purpose.

In the last 24 hours, Chatham-Kent Police Services received almost 30 accidental or hang-up 911 calls. They are asking Chatham residents to “lock it before your pocket,” to avoid pocket dials.

Even if you dial and hang up, dispatchers send police to your location. If an accidental call happens, C-K police say to stay on the line to let phone operators know it was an accident. If you hang up accidentally, call back the non-emergency line to let them know dispatch isn’t necessary.

If non-emergency services are required please call at 519-436-6600, extension 222.
