Police find drugs, alleged dealer during traffic stop

An alleged drug dealer has been pulled off of the streets in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said the 46-year-old man was arrested after police allegedly found some fentanyl, some crack cocaine, some crystal methamphetamine, and some hydromorphone on him after pulling over a vehicle in the area of King Street and Lacroix Street Monday afternoon.

An officer on general patrol made the stop and found the alleged dealer riding in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Police said in addition to the drugs, they also found a cell phone on the man, which violates one of his previous release conditions.

Officers arrested a 46-year-old Chatham man and charged him with three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions and four counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. He's being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police also arrested the driver of the vehicle -- a 38-year-old Chatham man who is accused of failing to comply with his release conditions and driving while his licence was suspended because of unpaid fines.

He was released with conditions and a future court date.
