Gas explosions cause nearly 40 fires in Massachusetts

At least 10 people have been injured after multiple explosions caused fires in nearly 40 homes and businesses in three Massachusetts towns.

The explosions and fires across dozens of blocks have forced evacuations in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover Thursday evening, according to CNN.  Of the 10 people injured, one is in critical condition and another is in serious condition.

State police have reported that there has been at least 70 emergency response for fires, explosions and investigations of gas odor.

The local utility is reportedly shutting down power in Lawrence, North Andover and Andover because of the emergency. Gas lines are also being depressurized by the company.

No information has been released about the extent of the damage at this time.
