Chatham-Kent residents are being asked to express their concerns over U.S.-imposed tariffs through an online survey.
The municipality's Economic Development team along with local and government partners have released a survey to gain a better understanding of how tariffs on steel and aluminum products affect local businesses.
A "Tariff Talks" roundtable was held in Chatham-Kent earlier this week to go over the already imposed and pending U.S. tariffs.
“The steel and metal fabrication industries have already been hit hard by U.S. tariffs and the threat of tariffs against the auto sector continues to linger,” said Geoff Wright, economic development officer with the municipality. “The Tariff Talks meeting was one tool we are using to engage our business community on vital topics. The survey is another way we are working to reach even more people on this critical issue and how it may impact Chatham-Kent’s economy.”
A number of businesses in nearby areas such as Windsor-Essex have already expressed concerns with how tariffs will affect them in the long-term.
The survey can be found on the municipality's website. Residents will be able to take the survey until September 28 at 12 p.m. The survey results will be anonymous and shared with government officials.
