UPDATE: Conservation authority upgrades safety bulletin

Residents who live along Lake Erie are being told to be careful around the shoreline.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) issued a safety bulletin for Lake Erie Shoreline and Erie Shore Drive Monday morning. The bulletin was issued after Environment Canada issued a strong wind warning for western Lake Erie.

Officials with the LTVCA upgraded the bulletin to a flood outlook Tuesday afternoon. Strong wind gusts are expected over the next couple of days, which could result in further flooding along Erie Shore Drive.

"Over the last few years, it seems that flooding along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent starts when sustained wind speeds from a southerly direction [southeast through southwest] reach around 35 kilometres per hour," the LTVCA said in a news release.

The flood outlook is expected to remain in place until September 27.
