Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex and western Middlesex County throughout the evening. All warnings were downgraded to a severe thunderstorm watch shortly before 11:30 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect for London-Middlesex and Elgin County but was lifted overnight.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
The annual Canada Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, from Wildwood Park to Kenwick Park.
