PC government to provide additional funding for Dresden Raceway

Ontario's horse racing industry, including Dresden Raceway, is getting additional provincial support.

The Progressive Conservative government announced on Friday at that it will be providing additional funding to continue horse racing at the tracks in Dresden and Fort Erie.  As well, agreements have been reached in principle to keep slots operating at the race tracks at Kawartha Downs and Ajax Downs.

"We worked with our partners in the horse racing industry, and have agreed on packages which include funding and/or slots at racetracks," said Finance Minister Vic Fedeli, in a news release. "These packages are designed to directly support the horse racing industry and rural communities."

The funding support "packages" provided to the racetracks have not been disclosed by the province.

The province said the move to invest in Ontario horse racing "repairs the damage done by the previous Liberal government when it cancelled the slots at racetracks program."

The government said discussions are also ongoing with other racetracks in Ontario.
