No Child Without a Christmas campaign officially begins

A holiday campaign that aims to leave no family without toys or dinner on Christmas Day officially launched with a dinner honouring some key volunteers.

This year marks the 64th "No Child Without a Christmas," which is run by the Chatham Goodfellows. The group held its annual meeting and dinner Thursday night at the Spirit and Life Centre in Chatham.

The Goodfellows Lifetime Achievement Award went to Fred Osmon, who has been involved with the organization for almost 60 years. In that time Osmon has investigated applicants, fundraised, collected, and packed and delivered food and toys for those in need in Chatham-Kent. He served as president of the Goodfellows from 1992 to 1994 and was the 1995 recipient of the Mr. Goodfellows Award.

This year's recipients of the Mr. and Mrs. Goodfellow Award were Mark Lacina and Ann Preston. The two are just the fourth husband and wife to receive the award in the 64-year history of the Chatham Goodfellows.
