UPDATE: Charges laid in Highway 401 crash

A 59-year-old man from Sandfield Township has been charged with careless driving after a crash closed part of Highway 401 in Chatham Wednesday morning.

Chatham-Kent OPP said an eastbound tractor trailer crashed into a cement barrier near Scane Road -- while entering a construction zone -- Wednesday morning around 4:15 a.m.

The highway's eastbound lanes were closed as a result but reopened a couple of hours later. The vehicle had to be towed from the area as there was extensive damage. However, no injuries were reported.
