Driver busted in RIDE program

Trying to avoid officers during a RIDE check didn't end well for a 43-year-old man from Chatham.

Provincial police were out on St. Clair Road Saturday around 12:45 p.m., as part of their Festive RIDE program. Police said a 43-year-old man saw officers stopping vehicles and then tried to avoid them.

The driver was taken for testing after officers suspected him of drinking alcohol. He was later charged with driving a vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood. He now has a court date set for December 19.

Chatham-Kent OPP are reminding drivers that they will be patrolling throughout the holiday season, looking for dangerous driving behaviours.
