No injuries in a Christmas Day barn fire

Fire officials say no one was hurt from a Christmas Day barn blaze in Leamington.

Firefighters were called shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday about a report of a fire on Mersea Road 8 near Highway 77. Flames had engulfed a barn on the property and heavy smoke was seen when crews arrived on scene.

The fire was brought under control in over an hour and was declared out by 6:30 p.m. The investigation determined that a heat lamp located in a doghouse next to the barn had caused the fire. There were no pets in the area at the time.

The damage estimate is at $60,000. The area of Mersea Road 8 near Highway 77 was closed for several hours while firefighters tackled the blaze.
