Dresden man charged in Chatham robbery

A 45-year-old man from Dresden is facing charges in connection with a robbery in Chatham.

Police said a suspect armed with a concealed weapon walked into a convenience store in the area of Grand Avenue and St. Clair Street, around 10:30 p.m. Monday.  He allegedly went behind the counter, demanded cash from the clerk and took off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Soon after the robbery, officers swarmed the area and found the suspect. In addition to the stolen cash, officers also found the weapon, which was found a short distance away.

The man is charged with robbery, being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and being in possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

His name has not been released and he is being held in custody for a bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
