Police identify driver killed in fatal Hwy. 401 crash in Tilbury

Chatham-Kent OPP have released the identity of the driver who died after a fatal crash on the eastbound Highway 401 in Tilbury Monday afternoon.

The OPP said 56-year-old Douglas Hunter from Glencoe, Alabama was rushed to an area hospital after the collision in critical condition, but later died from his injuries.

Police said he was driving a car that crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer in the eastbound lanes of the highway between County Road 42 and Queens Line at approximately 12 p.m. Monday, prompting officials to close the eastbound lanes for approximately six hours while Technical Collision Investigators completed their investigation.

The driver of the transport truck that was involved in the crash was not hurt and there is no word on whether charges will be laid in connection with the incident.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
