Robbery attempt sends one man to hospital

Police are looking for a suspect after a 53-year-old man received minor injuries in a robbery attempt in downtown Chatham.

According to police, the incident happened around noon Tuesday on Wellington Street West. The man was approached by a stranger who demanded money from him and after refusing, the victim was assaulted.

The suspect is described as white, between 5’9” and 5’11”, and was last seen wearing a dark blue winter coat with grey or brown fur around the hood, a blue sweater, a blue toque, and black shoes. Police said the suspect ran away and was last witnessed going south on Raleigh Street.

The victim was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with minor injuries.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
