Man tazed after allegedly grabbing officer

A 42-year-old Raleigh Township man is facing charges after police responded to a call about two suspicious people walking on Mill Street in Tilbury.

Chatham-Kent police said they received that call Tuesday night, adding that when officers found the couple, they determined the man was intoxicated.

He allegedly refused to identify himself to police and became belligerent and confrontational. At that point, police arrested the man for being intoxicated in a public place, but not without a struggle, during which time the man allegedly grabbed an officer.

In order to subdue the man, police used a Taser on him before taking him into custody.

The accused was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest and then released with conditions and a future court date.
