Fatal train crash in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a fatal train crash between Tilbury and Chatham that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

Police said they were called to the scene on Pump Road in Raleigh Township shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday after a VIA Rail train that was heading eastbound hit a pedestrian.

Officers said the pedestrian, who is from Chatham, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Out of respect for the family, police will not be releasing any more details about the deceased at this time.

The police force's traffic unit has taken over the investigation and they are asking anyone with information to contact Constable Dan Carroll at dancar@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
