The Ambassador Bridge Company announced on Monday afternoon that their commuter tolls will be reduced starting in two weeks.
Commuter tolls will drop from $4.60 and $4 (US) to $2.60 (US) everyday, anytime, in either direction beginning February 18. Current commuter card holders will also be automatically enrolled in the Ambassador Bridge Premier Commuter Card Program.
"The commuters have endured the closing of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, the closing of I-75, the shortage of both U.S. Customs (CBP) and Canada Customs (CBSA) staff and lane closures on the bridge itself for too long without any real or even perceived relief," Ambassador Bridge President Dan Stamper said.
The Ambassador Bridge Premier Commuter Card Program allows commuters to prepay their tolls electronically, clear customs in the most expedited way, and reduce the resource requirements for both U.S. and Canada customs along with bridge facilities.
"This program is a win-win for commuters, U.S. Customs (CBP), and Canada Customs (CBSA) operations at Ambassador Bridge," added Stamper.
Stamper said the bridge will also open a third commuter lane from Canada to the U.S. every weekday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and a third lane for U.S. commuters to Canada every weekday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Ambassador Bridge Company added it is working with customs management to use the NEXUS lanes to match these times.
“We have been testing this swap of lanes during similar times at the Ambassador Bridge for several months with great response from the commuters,” Stamper said.
New commuters can stop at the Ammex Duty Free Store on the U.S. side of the bridge to register for the Ambassador Bridge Premier Commuter Card Program.
