Father of Riya Rajkumar dies

The man charged in the death of an 11-year-old girl who was found dead after an Amber Alert last week has died.

Peel Regional Police said Roopesh Rajkumar suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and died Wednesday night in a Toronto hospital, just hours after the girl's funeral.

Police charged Rajkumar with first-degree murder after his daughter's body was found in his home.

They initiated the Amber Alert after he failed to bring Riya Rajkumar back to her mother on the evening of Valentine's Day, the girl's 11th birthday.

Police are continuing to investigate her death.
