Barn quilts still popular in Huron County

The chair of the 2017 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo in Huron County says one of the lasting legacies from the IPM is the barn quilts that decorate so many barns in the county almost two years later.

There are more than 220 barn quilts fixed to Huron County barns.

Jacquie Bishop said every time she drives down a road she sees a different one, so people are still putting them up on their barns.

Bishop said the idea of barn quilts for the 2017 IPM came from Tim Prior of Brussels Agri-Services.

"They had done a trail down along the Ridgetown area," she said. "And he thought it was a neat idea and how we had such beautiful barns within Huron County and what a great way to highlight them."

Bishop points out there's a story behind every barn quilt. Families got together to consider what meant the most to them, and what stories they could tell on their barn quilt.
