Detroit Red Wings legend Ted Lindsay has passed away.
The Lindsay family has confirmed that he died early Monday morning at the age of 93 at his home in Oakland Township, Michigan.
"Ted was a persistent, courageous and determined man both on and off the ice. He was a man of many firsts," said a statement from the Lindsay family. "We are comforted in knowing that the Ted Lindsay legacy will forever be a part of history and are so proud of the many lives he helped change for the better through his tireless humanitarian work."
Lindsay played more than 1,000 games in the NHL in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s -- most of which he spent with the Detroit Red Wings, winning four Stanley Cups with the team.
He scored 851 points in his Hockey Hall of Fame career, winning the Art Ross Trophy in 1950.
His number seven was retired by the Red Wings on November 10, 1991 and he was also named one of "The 100 Greatest NHL Players" in history in 2017.
