UPDATE: Firefighters called to house fire in Chatham

A father and his 2-year-old son were taken to hospital as a precaution after a fire on Patteson Avenue in Chatham on Monday night.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services officials said crews from Station 1 and 2 responded to the scene shortly after midnight, along with local police and paramedics.

Chatham-Kent police constables Doug Cowell and Fraser Leontowicz noticed smoke coming from the house while they were on general patrol and alerted the family members, who were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Two dogs were also safely removed from the home. Fire officials said the house did not have any smoke alarms inside.
