Firefighters put out fourplex fire in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent fire department was busy Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out in Chatham.

The blaze happened around 1:30 p.m. at a two storey multi-unit residence on Wellington Street East near Adelaide Street South. After initial reports of somebody being trapped inside the building, fire officials told Blackburn News that everyone was able to get out safely. Firefighters were also able to rescue several pets from the building.

Crews got the flames under control within a half hour.

Damage is estimated at around $150,000 and no injuries are being reported.

The Ontario Fire Marshal is attending the scene to investigate the cause.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
