Wellington Street East fire considered suspicious

Chatham-Kent police are asking for tips from the public as they look into a suspicious fire on Wellington Street East in Chatham.

Police said the Office of the Fire Marshal will be at the scene Wednesday assisting the Major Crime Unit with its investigation at the fourplex.

Initial reports indicated that someone was trapped inside the building when firefighters were called to the scene Tuesday afternoon, but police said no one was home in the apartment where the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
