Dumpster diver accused of assault with garbage bags

A 25-year-old man of no fixed address will be spending some time at the courthouse after allegedly jumping out of a dumpster and swinging some garbage bags at an apartment manager in Chatham.

Police said that happened Monday morning at an address on Grand Avenue after the manager approached the man, who was rummaging through the dumpster at the time.

The man allegedly took off running when police were called in, but officers were able to track him down and took him into custody.

The accused has been charged with uttering threats and assault and was taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.
