Life-threatening injuries after vehicle hits riding lawnmower

A 65-year-old Tilbury-area woman is fighting for her life in a London hospital after the riding lawnmower she was driving was hit by a vehicle.

Chatham-Kent police said emergency crews were called to the scene on Gleeson Line just east of Tilbury at around 6 p.m. Monday.

Officers said their initial investigation shows a vehicle was heading east when it hit a riding lawn mower, which had pulled out of a private driveway onto the road.

The woman who was driving the lawnmower was rushed to the hospital in Chatham before she was airlifted to a hospital in London with life-threatening injuries. A male youth who was a passenger on the mower was taken to the hospital in Chatham with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was not physically hurt.

The CKPS Traffic Unit is still investigating and police are asking anyone with information to contact Constable Randy Whittaker at randyw@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
