Queen tribute concert raises $16K for Children's Treatment Centre

Belting Bohemian Rhapsody and Under Pressure, a tribute band has helped to raise $16,000 for the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent.

The Simply Queen tribute concert was held on April 27 at the Capitol Theatre and brought in a nearly packed house. Greg Hetherington, who sits on the board of directors, opened the show along with Carson Grail for a Q&A about Queen, before the tribute band performed several iconic Queen songs.

The funds raised at the event, which was organized by the Canniff family, will help build a larger, more accessible facility for the treatment centre to better accommodate a growing demand for specialized therapy for children with special needs in Chatham-Kent. The "Butterfly Building" will be a larger, more accessible facility on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.

The treatment centre has estimated that by 2020 it will serve 4,500 clients in the municipality, which is one in five Chatham-Kent children.
