UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watches end in Southwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has ended all severe thunderstorm watches in Southwestern Ontario.

The weather agency issued a severe thunderstorm watch for London-Middlesex, Sarnia-Lambton Elgin County, Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.  A severe thunderstorm warning was later issued for Windsor-Essex as well, but all watches and warnings were declared over at around 9:30 p.m.

Environment Canada said conditions were ripe for the development of strong thunderstorms that could produce strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.

"Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles," Environment Canada said in a statement released Wednesday morning. "Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"
