Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services were called to the building on Erie Street South at 9:15 p.m.
Crews from Wheatley and Tilbury were able to quickly knock down most of the fire at the back of the building but stayed at the scene to keep an eye out for hot spots.
The cause is listed as undetermined and no injuries were reported.
Four Sarnia streets made the CAA's regional Worst Roads list this year. The only road outside of Sarnia to make the top five was Windsor's Riverside Drive East.
The city said road, water and sewer work is starting to get underway, marking another year of aggressive investment into infrastructure renewal.
