UPDATE: Highway 401 reopened in Dutton following transport truck crash

Two people are fighting for their lives after a crash involving two transport trucks that closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Dutton for over 10 hours.

The Ontario Provincial Police said the collision occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday, after a tractor trailer collided with the rear of another tractor trailer in the eastbound lanes at Iona Road.

A driver and a passenger in the transport truck that rear-ended the other tractor trailer were rushed to hospital with serious injuries that are now considered life-threatening. One was airlifted from the scene while the other was taken by ambulance.

Police reopened the roadway around 3:45 a.m. Saturday. No further details have been released at this time.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
