UPDATE: Damage estimated at $100K after fire at Tilbury factory

There is no word on a cause yet, but the damage estimate is in after a fire broke out at New Rubber Technologies in Tilbury.

Chatham-Kent fire officials say the damages from Monday morning's fire totalled approximately $100,000, adding that by the time crews arrived, there was already heavy smoke in the building.

Firefighters were able to quickly control the blaze -- described as a "machine on fire" -- and prevented the flames from spreading any further.

Chatham-Kent police closed a section of Mill Street West (Highway 2) in Tilbury for a couple of hours Monday to give emergency crews enough space to deal with the incident.
