CK officer helps deliver baby

A Chatham-Kent police officer has gone beyond the call of duty by helping with the emergency delivery of a baby.

The father of the child made an emergency call to the Chatham-Kent Police Service communication centre at around 12:48 p.m. on Tuesday after his wife went into labour. The father told dispatchers that the baby was not going to wait and would need to be delivered in their home.

Minutes later, Const. Gary Oriet arrived at the home and was able to assist with the delivery of a little baby girl.

The mother and baby were taken to the hospital shortly after for further medical assistance.  Oriet told Blackburn News on Wednesday that he had the opportunity to visit the family and said they are all doing well.

"It truly was an amazing experience and a first in my 15-year career," said Oriet. "The parents and EMS dispatcher were also amazing throughout. I am truly blessed and grateful to be present and serve this family at a time when needed most."
