Severe thunderstorms threaten region

Amid a heat warning for much of Southern Ontario, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for London - Middlesex, Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex Saturday afternoon.

Saturday evening all of the watches were upgraded to severe thunderstorm warnings.

The severe thunderstorms brought with them strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

According to the weather agency, "a line of strong to severe thunderstorms has formed over Michigan and is forecast to move southeastward across Southwestern Ontario this evening. Very strong wind gusts to 100 km/h will be possible with this line of storms, as well locally heavy rainfall accumulations."

Residents are warned to seek shelter if the weather worsens.

While some areas were hit hard by stormy weather, the warning was ended for Sarnia-Lambton and Windsor-Essex around 8:30 p.m. and for Chatham-Kent as well as London around 9:00 p.m. Saturday night.

A severe thunderstorm watch for all areas was ended around 9:50 p.m. Saturday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
