Dresden Ex set for this weekend

A summer tradition for the past 144 years is about to get underway in Dresden.

The gates and midway at the Dresden Exhibition agricultural fair open at 3 p.m. on Friday and run until Sunday.

"We have a new vendor show for the actual fair that's going on. The soapbox derby, which they've done before. They've got Muttin' Bustin', the kids ride around," said one of the organizers Jay Sutherland. "Typical fall fair, obviously not fall just yet. We've got the parade Friday night."

Sutherland added that the Dresden Ex is fun for the whole family.

"There's food, games, all the good stuff, they have the exhibits in the arena. Actually, they still have horse racing on Sunday, then continue on with their regular race program. Everything starts pretty much at 5 p.m. on Friday, the midway opens sooner than that."

One of the biggest draws this year is the two-day truck and tractor pull on Friday and Saturday night.

"We're going an unlimited modified, so these are the tractors that have the big four-engine modified tractors, they're going to be there Saturday night," said Sutherland. "We've got so real special guests that compete on the Grand National level coming over from Michigan. We've got pullers from Eastern Ontario and Quebec. It's gonna be loud."

The pull on Friday night starts at 7 p.m. and on Saturday it starts at 6 p.m. Plus there is lawnmower pulling Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

There is also a cattle show and a rabbit show on Saturday, plus a horse show and sheep show on Sunday.
