Two charged after golf cart theft
A joy ride on a golf cart has led to charges for a pair of out-of-towners.
According to police, they got a call around 7:30 Saturday night from someone complaining about mischief at a golf course in Chatham. Officers learned that two men had allegedly stolen a golf cart and damaged it while they were driving.
As a result, a 21-year-old man and 18-year-old man, both from London, were arrested and charged with theft over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000. They were released and given a future court date.
Man charged with assault
A man is facing charges after a domestic disturbance took a frightening turn.
It happened early Saturday morning in Chatham. Police got the call about a disturbance happening around 7 a.m.
Through investigation, officers learned that the man allegedly assaulted his common-law girlfriend during an argument.
He was located a short distance away and placed under arrest for two counts of assault. He was then transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and held in custody for a bail hearing.
Theft in Chatham
A 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested after police say he allegedly stole from an area hardware store.
It happened Saturday afternoon at the Home Depot in Chatham. According to police, the man stole a $350 tool from the store and fled the scene on a bike.
Officers were able to locate and arrest him. He was charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained in a crime. He has been released with a future court date.
Theft at Canadian Tire
Saturday morning, police dealt with another theft in Chatham, this time at the Canadian Tire.
Police say the 22-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained in a crime. He was released and given a future court date.
Man arrested on warrants
Police were able to nab a man who was wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants.
It happened around 7 p.m. on Saturday night in Dresden when police located the man on Camden Street.
Police learned he was wanted on several warrants, arrested him and transported him to the police station.
The 50-year-old Dresden man was eventually released pending a future court date.
Several people ticketed during blitz
Yesterday afternoon members of the Community Patrol Branch conducted speed enforcement on Indian Creek Road East in Chatham. Six motorists were charged with speeding.
Police are reminding drivers to obey the posted speed limits.
