Police arrest three alleged gas thieves in Dover Township

After a pursuit which involved police drones and the K9 unit, three alleged gas thieves have been charged.

The incident began around 7 a.m. on Sunday morning when police received a complaint of gas theft at a Thamesville business, police said in a statement.

According to law enforcement, three people fled the scene in a red pick-up truck on Bear Line Rd., that's when the chase started. The vehicle drove through various farm fields, causing damage to crops, said police.

After a short period of time, the driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot into a marsh area where he stole a boat. The two passengers of the motor vehicle were arrested by community patrol members and the vehicle was found to be stolen from the London area.

At 1:50 pm on Sunday, the driver was tracked by dogs through a corn-field and was subsequently arrested by police.

A 36-year-old Kettle Point man has been charged in connection with the incident and was held pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent police community patrol, marine unit, drones, and K9 units were all utilized in an attempt to locate the accused.
