Fire fallout cancels weekend races in South Buxton

Officials at the Southern Ontario Motor Speedway have been forced to put a hold on racing at the track after a fire broke out there earlier this week.

A post on the racetrack's Facebook page Wednesday said they are thankful for the support from the community, but they're also "so upset to have to cancel the racing events for this weekend."

Officials said "if there was any way we could be ready we would," but added that is not the case and that they "need to ensure safety for everybody too."

As a result, practices and racing have been cancelled at the track for the week and further updates are expected to be provided once they are available.

In the meantime, Chatham-Kent police continue to investigate the fire and anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
