Canada's prime minister will officially announce the start of the federal election campaign this week.
The Toronto Star has reported that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to call the beginning of the campaign on Wednesday to kick off the October 21 federal election. Trudeau will set the process in motion to dissolve Parliament by meeting with Governor General Julie Payette at Rideau Hall.
The Liberals had until this Sunday's deadline to call the election.
While Wednesday will officially begin the campaign process, the leading and opposition parties have already been on the offensive with the Conservatives highlighting Trudeau's privileged past, and the Liberals mocking the Conservative's attempts to paint Leader Andrew Scheer’s upbringing as modestly middle-class.
The election will ultimately be decided in the county's 338 ridings.
