Maroons top Legionnaires 5-2

The Chatham Maroons earned their first victory of the regular season by beating the Sarnia Legionnaires 5-2 on Thursday.

Tate Bowden scored 8:25 into the first period and Maddux Rychel added another in the final three minutes of the frame to give Chatham a 2-0 lead.

The Legionnaires tied the game by scoring two back-to-back goals in the second, but Blake Boudreau scored 13:47 into the final period to regain the lead for the Maroons. Bowden scored his second of the night 16:33 into the frame, and Griffin Robinson added one more for Chatham in the final seconds.

Chatham goalie Tiago Rocha made 32 saves out of 34 shots on net.

"The second period; they came out pushing harder than we were, obviously, and penalties really got us into some trouble," said Bowden after the game. "They ended up scoring two on us but we ended up coming back, so it was great."

The Maroons are back on home ice on Sunday to take on the London Nationals at 7 p.m.
