UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch ends

The weekend got off to a blustery start for parts of southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada has ended a severe thunderstorm watch for London, Middlesex County, Elgin County, Windsor, Essex County and Chatham-Kent.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Windsor, Essex County and Chatham-Kent late Friday afternoon, but was ended in both regions shortly before 6 p.m.

The weather agency said conditions are ripe for the development of thunderstorms Friday afternoon and into the evening.

"Thunderstorms expected to develop this afternoon may become severe with wind gusts of 100 km/h and heavy rainfall." the advisory said. "These storms also have the potential to produce tornadoes."

The forecast caused organizers of Airshow London to cancel the Friday evening portion of the show. It is expected to proceed as scheduled on Saturday and Sunday.
