Collision in Chatham leads to attempted murder charge

A man is facing an attempted murder charge after a motor vehicle collision in Chatham on Saturday morning involving a pedestrian.

It happened around 4 a.m. on Harvey street. According to police, the driver failed to remain at the scene of the collision.

Through investigation, police learned that the driver and victim knew each other with evidence leading investigators to believe it was an intentional act.

The driver has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing. The victim was transported to a Windsor hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
