Elderly man struck by vehicle

An elderly pedestrian had to be taken to hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross a busy Chatham road.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said on Thursday at around 3:30 p.m., the man tried to cross Grand Avenue near Ursuline Avenue without using a crosswalk and was struck by a car.

The man, who is in his 80s, was rushed to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. He remained in hospital as of press time.

Police had westbound Grand Avenue down to one lane while emergency crews were at the scene. The scene was cleared shortly before 5 p.m.

No charges are expected to be laid, police said.
