Man charged after leaving collision scene

A Chatham man is facing four charges after allegedly leaving the scene of a collision.

It happened around 5 a.m. Saturday morning when a CK police officer noticed a pick-up truck speeding down McNaughton Avenue East in Chatham.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle but was unable to catch up to it and eventually lost sight of it.

The officer continued patrolling the area and then came across the same pick-up truck upside down in a ditch on Caledonia Road, just north of McNaughton Line. The driver had already exited the vehicle and left the area.

He was eventually found and at first, he lied to police about his involvement in the collision.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with driving a vehicle with no license, careless driving, failing to remain at the scene and public mischief.

He was later released from custody with a future court date.
