Wanted woman found hiding under tree

A 29-year-old woman who was wanted by police in connection with a robbery at a local motel has been arrested after someone called in a suspicious vehicle at a farm south of Chatham.

Police said they got the tip at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday after a truck pulled into a farm property on Bloomfield Road. Officers said the homeowner approached the woman as she got out of the truck, adding that the woman then allegedly took off running.

Investigators managed to track the woman down and found her hiding under an evergreen tree on Sixteenth Line.

Police said they also learned that the truck the woman was driving was reported stolen and had stolen license plates attached to it.

During the course of their investigation, officers also learned that the woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant. As a result, the accused was charged with one count of robbery in connection with an incident at a local motel last month and two counts of possession of stolen property.

She was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
