Chatham man killed in Melbourne Road crash

Provincial police have identified a 21-year-old Chatham man as the person killed in a two-vehicle crash southwest of London earlier this week.

Trevor Wintjes died after the cargo van he was driving north on Melbourne Road in Southwest Middlesex collided with a pickup truck on the Thames River Bridge around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The force of the crash caused the van to veer off the road and roll into the ditch.

Wintjes was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was not physically hurt.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
