LKDSB to close high schools if teachers walk out

The Lambton Kent District School Board is planning to close high schools on Wednesday if members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation stage a one-day strike.

In a contract negotiation update posted online Friday afternoon, the board said if a settlement is not reached and the one-day, full strike proceeds, secondary schools will be closed to students on December 4 and will reopen Thursday, December 5, 2019.

The board said it's hopeful an agreement will be reached, and the action will be avoided.

All LKSSAA athletic activities scheduled for Wednesday have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

LKDSB elementary schools will be open to students on Wednesday, December 4.
