Maroons beat Rockets 7-6

The Chatham Maroons narrowly defeated the Strathroy Rockets 7-6 at the Chatham Memorial Arena on Sunday.

Ashton Jones scored the first goal of the night for the Maroons 3:48 into the first period. Strathroy received three consecutive goals scored by Brendan Mairs, Zachary Berriault and Daniel Aspro.

Chatham's Tate Bowden 3:23 into the second period which Daniel Aspro countered with a power-play goal for Strathroy. Dallas Maurovic scored a goal for the Maroons. Strathroy received another power-play goal scored by Jordan D'Intino, followed by a goal from Adrian Franklin.

Maurovic scored two goals to start the third period. Maddux Rychel and Griffin Robinson scored 15:41 and 19:26 into the frame.

Chatham goalie Darian McTavish saved 17 out of 22 shots on net. Goalie Kevin Linker saved 24 out of 25.

The Maroons will face-off against the Leamington Flyers on Thursday. Puck drops at 7:10 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
